Structural Biology Symposium

This is an annual event hosted by the Crystallography Laboratory to highlight structural biology research on campus.

The fourth symposium will be held on Friday 27th March, 2009.

The symposium is sponsored by
Oxford Diffraction
College of Science, Departments of Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Geosciences, Chemistry, Physics and MCBB

Download the third circular with detailed program as a pdf file.

Registration is now closed. But you can still attend the symposium without registering!

Speakers

Dr. Eva Nogales (Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, HHMI / University of California, Berkeley) is a pioneer in the application of cryo-electron microscopy to characterize the structures of complex biological assemblies. her talk will be "Structural analysis of mitosis: engaging of microtubules and kinetochores".

Dr. Timothy A. Cross, Director, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Program, National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, Tallahassee will talk on "Lipid bilayers: an essential environment for the understanding of membrane protein structure-function relationships".

Dr. William T. Heller, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, will introduce the unique facilities available at Oak Ridge for structural biology..

Dr. Christina Furdui (Wake Forest): Temporal Resolution of Protein Signaling Events

Dr. David Bevan (VT Biochemistry): Application of Molecular Dynamics Simulations to Studies of Protein-Membrane Interactions.

Dr. J. Li (VT Biochemistry): Melanization pathway in insects.

Dr. J. Xing (VT Biological Sciences): Slow conformational fluctuations: from molecular to biological network dynamics.

Poster Session

Poster submissions on any aspect of structural biology and related topics are encouraged from faculty and students.
Oxford Diffraction are sponsoring a prize of $200 for the best poster from a student! Submit the title of your poster on the registration page; you must register to present a poster.

Registration

Registration is now closed. Pre-registration was required to submit a poster, or to have lunch. But you can still attend the symposium and reception without registering!
